Saltville wins VRA approval for pump-station and meter projects — $3 million award announced

The Virginia Resources Authority (VRA) Board approved funding for Saltville’s Pump Station Project and Water Meter Replacement project, Town Manager Cecile Rosenbaum told the council on Dec. 9. Rosenbaum said the award follows months of audit and reporting work required by the funding agency and that closings are expected in January 2026.
Rosenbaum described the award as a major step for the water and sewer system and credited staff work on audits and agency reporting as critical to securing the funding. The council did not vote on project contracts at the meeting; Rosenbaum said the town expects to proceed to closing and implementation after the VRA paperwork is completed.
The announcement follows earlier updates in the meeting about wastewater consent-order work with DEQ and continued rented pumps operating at $5,000 per month at the treatment plant. Rosenbaum said closing on the VRA projects will enable planned work on the pump station and replacement of radio-read water meters.
