Summer resident asks selectboard to consider renaming Lake Dunmore; town chair says cost and will are lacking

The Chair read correspondence from a summer resident, John Casadento, who suggested the town consider renaming Lake Dunmore after researching the lakes namesake and concluding the historical figure had acted against Revolutionary War patriots. "Renaming the lake would be a reasonable and timely conversation to have at least among the residents of the two towns," the letter said.
Selectboard members discussed the idea briefly; the Chair also read a reply from Patrick Dunne who thanked Casadento for his research but said that changing the lakes name would involve expense and potential litigation and that the town did not currently have the people, passion or money to pursue a renaming. The Chair said he would respond to the correspondent and keep the letter on file for further discussion if community interest grows.
