The PPR Committee recommended approval of a dam removal project at Smugglers' Notch Resort that would remove two dams, including the Morses Mill Dam, to restore the creek and improve flood resiliency and fish habitat. The minutes note the Morses Mill Dam has some historic significance that the project has addressed. The project is primarily grant funded, with some financial input from the resort and involvement by VNRC.
Jeff Tilton moved that staff be directed to write a letter to the District Commission indicating the projects conform to the Regional Plan and reserving the right to revisit the issue if project details change; Dan McDowell seconded and the motion carried. The record indicates the board supports the PPR recommendation while retaining the right to reexamine the projects if later changes arise.
