A committee member (S3) raised a concern that Marla had photographed a structure on Mud Hollow Road that ‘‘looked like people have been staying in for 10 years’’ but that there are no building permits on record. The committee agreed to first gather more information rather than start enforcement immediately.
Committee member (S1) urged that Marla share the photos and recommended asking Erin or Aaron to check property and permit records, then contacting the property owner to clarify whether the structure is occupied and what it is. ‘‘We are just gathering information, and maybe we can also ask Erin for… the owners of the property,’’ S1 said, adding the group should begin with a neighborly call rather than a violation letter.
Members discussed other technical and safety questions that would affect next steps: whether the property has power or a well, septic status, potential easements, and whether a site visit or involvement of the listers is appropriate. Committee member (S4) noted septic and wiring issues ‘‘go to the state’’ if present, and the group agreed those issues could require referrals beyond the planning committee.
The committee asked Marla to share the photos with staff and for Erin or Aaron to double‑check permitting. If there are no permits, members said they would follow up with a phone call or a single drive‑by site check to avoid trespass. The committee did not vote on enforcement at the meeting and instructed staff to report back with what records show.
