Conservation Commission outlines town‑forest plans, seeks partnerships and natural burial assessment

The Lincoln Conservation Commission told the Selectboard it is expanding conservation and community engagement work across multiple town forests and pursuing partnerships and grants to support that work.
Chair Christine Birong‑Smith and commission members described ongoing management planning with the county forester for Wildwoods Town Forest, an entrance sign plan for Willards Woods, and educational signage and a bench for Riverbend Town Forest. The commission has asked for Selectboard permission to have a cemetery consultant and biologist, Michelle Acciavatti, assess Riverbend for possible viability as a natural burial site; Christine noted that Acciavatti is preparing a contract for Selectboard review.
The LCC also described outreach plans: a library‑partnered speaker series funded in part by a Vermont Reads grant, a pollinator gardening talk with a master gardener ahead of the annual plant sale, and Green Up Day logistics including requesting a dumpster delivery on May 1 for the May 2 event. The commission reported exploring grants with the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board and partnering interest from the Middlebury Area Land Trust for conservation options for Willards Woods. "We continue to be a busy crew as we explore ways to deepen the conservation and community engagement work we have already been doing," the report said.
Selectboard members asked the LCC to provide summary packets and maps in advance when seeking Selectboard action; the commission said it will do so when materials are ready.
