LCPC staff present fundamentals of municipal land use planning

Seth Jensen, a planner with the Lamoille County Planning Commission, presented a Fundamentals of Land Use Planning training for selectboards, trustees and municipal planning commissioners during the Oct. 28 meeting. Jensen summarized statutory planning goals, explained how a municipal plan differs from a regional plan and stressed that regulations must conform to an adopted municipal plan.
Jensen emphasized that municipal plans ‘‘expire every eight years’’ and that the planning process is as important as the written plan because a good process produces better, more defensible plans. The training was described as the first in a series, with additional municipal-focused topics to be offered in later sessions or delivered individually to towns.
