EDA-funded study: model suggests Johnson flood elevations could fall by about 3 feet

At the Nov. 25 meeting, Executive Director Tasha Wallis summarized a resiliency planning grant from the Economic Development Agency administered by the Northern Vermont Economic Development District (NVEDD). Wallis said the EDA-funded flood model for the main stem of the Lamoille River indicates that flood levels in Johnson "could be lowered by as much as 3 feet." The draft plan is posted on the LCPC website (https://www.lcpcvt.org/recoveryandresilience) and public comments are due Dec. 5.
The modeling is intended to inform local mitigation and resilience planning; Wallis said the plan is nearly complete and out for review. The Board was told the Rutland Regional Planning Commission’s recent submission to LURB generated extensive comment, and staff expect to use that experience as a reference as they finalize the resiliency work for Lamoille County.
