Newtown supervisors authorize advertising of revised data-center ordinance

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors authorized sending a revised data-center ordinance to the jointure to be advertised for public hearing, the township solicitor said during the July 22 meeting. "If the board's of a mind, it will be a motion to authorize sending the revised data center ordinance to the joint chair to advertise a public hearing," the solicitor told the board before a motion was made and seconded.
Planning commission input and a Bucks County Planning Commission review informed the revisions; the planning commission recommended the ordinance be forwarded in its current form so it could be placed on the public record. The solicitor and several supervisors said advertising the draft is a defensive step to provide the township more control over future data-center siting and to reduce legal risk; the solicitor explained that once advertised the draft becomes a public document and a public hearing will be scheduled (the jointure indicated an August hearing is possible, with final scheduling still to be confirmed).
