State samples Lincoln transfer station after missed PFAS testing; next steps hinge on results

Town Administrator Trish Waugh told the board that during transfer-station certification review it was discovered that required PFAS testing from 2018 was never completed. State personnel have collected samples from the landfill wells and the Solid Waste Management program offered to cover the initial sampling costs and perform the testing. Trish said the town will receive results in June or July and that the next steps will depend on those results: either applying for post-closure certification and additional sampling if contaminants are at concerning levels or pursuing a custodial care plan with annual maintenance and monitoring.
Separately, the board discussed the food-scraps building and whether a metal container is needed to deter bears; Nancy Stevens confirmed the 'tin' appears to be in place and Trish will check with Acker Waste Management about container options and management of the food-scraps shed.
