Superintendent Tyson Eslinger updated the board on legislative and budget matters during the March 9 meeting, telling members that SB244 (the bathroom law) became law on Feb. 26 and that USD 417 is in compliance. He also reported ongoing challenges with special-education (SPED) funding and noted increased costs for utilities, insurance and wages.
Eslinger presented an eight-year history of district FTE and weighted FTE and outlined next steps including evaluation, progression and implementation strategies to keep the district financially stable. He said the district may need targeted decisions to maintain fiscal health, and that staff will follow up with board-requested metric specs at the April meeting.
