The USD 417 Board of Education unanimously adopted a multi-year Long Range Plan at its March 9 regular meeting in Council Grove. The motion to adopt the plan was made by Kelsey Hartman and seconded by James Blue; the vote was 7-0.
Superintendent Tyson Eslinger presented the plan and framed it in the district’s current fiscal context, citing an eight-year history of full-time-equivalent (FTE) and weighted-FTE enrollment trends and rising costs for utilities, insurance and wages. Board members asked for measurable metrics tied to Student Success and Parent & Community Engagement; Eslinger said a reporting form will be provided to specify what the board wants tracked.
The plan adoption follows the board’s request that strategic objectives be measurable and reportable; no budget reallocations were recorded as part of the motion. Next procedural steps include quarterly metric reports to the board and bringing related policy items to the April meeting as needed.
