The Londonderry Selectboard on April 7 authorized Mountain Towns Recreation to spend up to $10,000 to purchase a used ½‑ton pickup to tow mowers and a tractor for the upcoming parks season. The Parks Board had voted to approve the purchase; Treasurer Tina Labeau said Riverside Parks funds are available to cover purchase, insurance and upkeep.
Director Liam Elio told the Board the truck would be used approximately 20–30 hours a week for half the year, and would be kept and available for other uses in winter. Resident Paul Hendler asked whether there was money for upkeep and insurance; Labeau responded that the Riverside Parks budget contains funds for those costs. The Selectboard adopted the motion to authorize the purchase by unanimous vote.
Elio also recommended hiring Nicholas Crane for a part‑time seasonal maintenance position. Board members noted a Vermont seasonal-hour cap (average of 32 hours per week across the year) and asked the Treasurer to clarify how Crane’s concurrent Transfer Station work would interact with that limit; Treasurer Labeau will report back at the next meeting.
The Board agreed to evaluate whether to continue mowing in‑house or contract the service after the season, noting that a used truck is a short‑term option and the Town pickup slated for replacement in coming years could later be reassigned to parks maintenance.
