Residents press board over Lightpath fiber route and permit timing

Residents at the July 22 meeting urged the board to withhold permits for Lightpath until the company clarifies its route and consults both township and borough residents. Charlie Foyer, who identified himself as "Charlie Foyer, Newtown Walk," said he had attended a Lightpath presentation and proposed an alternate route via the bypass and Terry Drive; he told the board he was "vehemently opposed" to running fiber near the borough downtown and asked when the company would present an updated endpoint.

John Mack, a Newtown Township resident, said he attended a Newtown Sewer Authority meeting where Lightpath indicated it planned to use the original route down Washington Avenue, and he suggested the route had not changed. Chair (S1) noted that no permits have been filed and that Lightpath is doing engineering work; he also said PennDOT has told the township it generally does not allow that type of work on limited‑access highways, which could constrain Lightpath's proposed bypass options. Residents asked the board to require Lightpath to present route maps and to hold a public session before any permits are issued.
