Davidson Trucking disputes Mulberry parking ordinance; proposed amendment fails for lack of second

Craig Wright, owner of Davidson Trucking, and his driver Chris Mitchell addressed the council after receiving a courtesy notice asserting a violation of the city parking ordinance. Chief Joey Adelman and City Attorney Marshall Blinzler responded that the city interprets state statute to designate tow trucks as emergency vehicles only when actively performing a tow and that Ordinance 2019-04 applies while a vehicle is actively performing work.
Ken Collins moved to amend the ordinance to change the weight threshold to 14,000 pounds or more; there was no second and the motion died. Randy Jones told the owner and driver to return at the February meeting and the council agreed to give the driver a 30-day reprieve until then. The minutes do not show a formal waiver or ordinance change; the council encouraged the parties to appear again for fuller consideration.
