Ideas discussed included relocating the bridge crossing the West River, implementing traffic-calming measures such as reduced speed limits and speed tables, creating a new connector road from Crescent Street to School Street, and adding or improving sidewalks where feasible.
The discussion addressed feasibility, noting that many Main Street residences are second homes or short-term rentals and that sidewalk use patterns would need to be evaluated. Flood-elevation and water-storage projects were proposed: Tom Cavanagh named Prouty Land and a five-acre section north of the rescue squad as potential sites for water storage during heavy rain events. Commissioners also discussed potential relocation or consolidation of fire facilities, including moving the firehouse to the Town Garage or constructing a new building on the Prouty Property.
The commission did not take formal action but flagged these items for future discussion and coordination with the Master Plan Task Force.
