Committee recommends leasing $599,500 Eco Sewer Cleaner to boost wastewater maintenance

Bruce Martin, Public Works Director, described the size of Box Elder’s wastewater system and the operational gap the city faces in maintaining it. "The wastewater division maintains roughly 60 66 miles of sewer main... Currently, we just use a small tow behind back trailer that just doesn't... accomplish what we need to effectively," Martin said, adding staff recommendation to lease a Sewer Equipment of America 900 Eco Sewer Cleaner on a Western Star chassis. "Total purchase is 599,500 leased over a 5 year period," he said.
Martin noted the industry's guideline to clean roughly one-third of a sewer system yearly and said the city currently cleans about 15%, roughly half the target; the equipment would increase effectiveness, reduce manual grit removal and support emergency response. A committee member moved to approve Resolution 26-18 authorizing the lease purchase and forward it to council with a recommendation to approve; the motion passed.
