Neodesha adopts 2024 Standard Traffic Ordinance, sets local speed limits and school zones

The City of Neodesha adopted Ordinance No. 1806 on Aug. 28, 2024 to incorporate by reference the 2024 edition of the Standard Traffic Ordinance (STO) published by the League of Kansas Municipalities. Administrator Jones presented the ordinance and Commissioner Vail‑Keller moved for approval; Commissioner Banzet seconded and the motion carried.
The ordinance amends local traffic rules, including a maximum speed of 20 mph in business districts, 25 mph in residential districts, 20 mph in specified school zones during listed school‑term hours (7:30–8:30 a.m.; 11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.; 3:00–4:00 p.m.), and specific speed segments on U.S. Highway 75 (portions set at 30 and 45 mph depending on block). The STO adoption also establishes scheduled fine ranges (not less than $10 and not more than $1,200) for traffic infractions; the ordinance is effective upon publication in the official city newspaper.
