Wastewater committee reports $500,000 grant but warns of September 2026 deadline

Gary Hedman, chair of the Village Wastewater Committee, told the Selectboard that a Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) representative said an additional $500,000 grant is available and that ARPA money had been transferred into the state fund to support the project. Hedman cautioned, however, that the transfer did not extend the project's current completion deadline of September 2026.
The Committee plans to draft a position paper to submit to the state legislature asking for an extension of the completion deadline to the end of 2026. The Selectboard reviewed a draft ordinance, agreed with attorney suggestions and indicated willingness to serve as the Wastewater Administrator. The board discussed fee-structure options prepared by RCAP and acknowledged that connection fees could be a burden for some residents; outreach and communications with residents who want to connect will begin.
