Chiropractic association urges MLAC to ensure debate and fairness in access-to-care rulemaking

Dr. Verne Sabo, representing the Oregon Chiropractic Association, urged the committee to preserve “balance and fairness” in upcoming subcommittee and summit discussions about access-to-care and attending-physician authority. “We are hoping and praying that you, the management labor advisory committee, would in fact provide that balance and fairness in regards to our proposal ... that would allow chiropractic physicians to serve as attending physicians for the life of an injured worker's claim,” Sabo said.
Sabo said the subcommittee’s appointment of nurse‑practitioner co‑chairs created the appearance of a conflict given prior legislative efforts to expand nurse practitioner attending authority. He asked MLAC to ensure future meetings include rigorous discussion of facts, data and quality medical evidence to determine whether chiropractic physicians, physician assistants, or nurse practitioners should be permitted attending-physician status.
