New Strawn council adopts 2025 budget that raises $151,298 in property taxes

Mayor Rhonda Taylor announced during the Aug. 8 meeting that the proposed 2025 budget, if approved, "will raise $151,298 from property taxes at a tax rate of 33.089 mills." After a public hearing with no public comments, the council voted 4-0 to adopt the budget.
The council also approved additional warrants of $7,763.49 earlier in the meeting and had previously approved warrants dated July 9 through Aug. 5 totaling $146,219.48 and July payroll of $9,604.40. Councilmember Jeanne Haas moved to adopt the 2025 budget and Councilmember Stephanie Baker seconded; the motion carried 4-0.
