Chemeketa president tells Amity Council college won rural CTE grant and bond would not raise rate

President Hubbard of Chemeketa Community College told the Amity City Council that Chemeketa has a strong relationship with Amity High School and shared enrollment and dual-credit figures, then described a federal grant and an upcoming bond measure. "We were the only institution in Oregon to qualify for a specific federal grant called the Rural Postsecondary and Economic Development Program federal grant," Hubbard said, explaining the grant funds free CTE courses (BOLT) for rural seniors and bilingual resources to engage Hispanic students.
Hubbard also explained that a district bond will appear on the November ballot for the same rate as the sunsetting bond: "the bond measure that's on the November ballot, which is for the exact same amount, 27¢ per thousand, if passed, would come in right behind it. So the taxpayer would see no difference," he said. The bond, he said, would support doubling paramedic program output, expanding healthcare and construction programs, and creating a disaster-resilience center at the Salem campus.
Council members thanked Hubbard and had no follow-up questions at the meeting; Hubbard invited future reports as the grant projects and bond outreach proceed.
