Council reviewed and approved a draft letter to the Land Conservation and Development Commission (LCDC) requesting a voluntary periodic review of Amity's comprehensive plan and authorized staff to submit the letter for the LCDC meeting on Sept. 27.
City Administrator Nathan Fark explained the letter and staff report are part of DLCD's process for voluntary periodic review and that the city was invited to present at LCDC. Councilors proposed edits to the draft: replacing phrasing such as "engage" with "facilitate outreach," simplifying an overly long sentence, and placing the formal request as its own sentence for clarity. A motion to approve the letter with the discussed edits and to authorize the council to sign the letter passed by voice vote.
Council discussed whether LCDC denial is possible; staff said DLCD staff treats the formal request as largely procedural and that a denial by LCDC is a remote possibility, but council asked staff to seek clarification at the LCDC meeting. Mayor King and staff plan to attend to explain the city's work on the comprehensive plan.
