Panel hears testimony for removing 180‑day limit so PAs and NPs can remain attending providers

Taylor Sarman, representing the Oregon Society of Physician Associates, told the committee LC 241 (expected to become House Bill 4040) would remove the 180‑day limit that currently prevents physician associates and nurse practitioners from remaining the attending provider once that threshold passes. "It'll remove that hundred and 80 day time limit for those privileges," Sarman said, arguing the change would reduce arbitrary referrals and delays in care.
Rachel Young, a physician associate practicing in rural Oregon, described the effect on continuity and access: with long waits for new attending providers, patients can face months without appropriate follow‑up and increased emergency visits. "Being able to approve this bill increases patient access and improves continuity to care, decrease costs and time loss, and, ultimately, the goal is getting the patient back to work in a timely fashion," Young said. Committee members asked for any minor technical edits from DCBS and a bill analysis when final language is available; no vote occurred and members called a brief caucus to consider stakeholder views before returning at the next meeting.
