Average Weekly Wage subcommittee seeks compromise; stakeholder options due

Stacy Lewellen gave the Average Weekly Wage subcommittee update, saying the group has met regularly since May and is engaging stakeholders to craft options for addressing low‑income worker wage calculations in the workers' compensation system. Stakeholder proposals on alternative frameworks were due immediately following the meeting and the subcommittee expects to vet those options and return a recommendation to MLAC.
"We know that, probably the best solution is one where neither labor or management is ecstatic, but that feels like that's probably the fair solution," Lewellen said, describing the group's efforts to balance competing goals. The committee praised stakeholder engagement and WCD's data work supporting modeling and policy analysis.
The cochairs asked stakeholders to continue engagement and said a final report or recommendations are planned for the Nov. 6 MLAC meeting.
