Council awards $22,295 contract to repair sinkhole, replace 24" tile at Municipal Lot #1

Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council on Aug. 13 that a sinkhole had developed at Municipal Lot #1 where a 24-inch clay tile had failed. Consultant Bob Carpenter and engineer Tim Wells recommended lining pipes in sections, replacing the 24" clay tile within the sinkhole, reconnecting all pipes in the sinkhole to the 24" line, installing a larger catch basin adjacent to the sinkhole and replacing roughly 10 feet of pipe.
The council considered two estimates: Mansfield submitted $22,295 and McLallen Construction submitted $23,450; both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the work. Councilor Steadman moved to accept Mansfield's $22,295 proposal to perform the work; Councilor Osborn seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The minutes specify the scope and contractor amount but do not list a start date or project duration. The borough will supply a truck as required by both estimates.
