Collector outlines tax-sale schedule and warns of brief website migration disruption

Chris Mullen, Cass County Collector of Revenue, used the public-comment period to give the commission and public an update on the upcoming annual tax sale and an IT migration.
Mullen said the county is "down to 135 properties" remaining for the upcoming sale and outlined the required three-publication schedule starting tomorrow, with yard signage to be placed Aug. 6–7 and the tax sale scheduled for July 24. He also said the collector's website (casscountycollector.com) and the tax program will move to a new host and into the cloud on July 31, which will require taking the site offline for an hour or two. "There will be disruption to taxpayers for an hour or 2 as we move to the new server," Mullen said. He said staff will receive additional training and encouraged people to report any issues they encounter during the transition.
Mullen said the migration will enable new services over the coming years, such as self-serve merchant licenses and instantaneous tax receipts, and make it easier for staff to work remotely. The commission acknowledged the announcement but took no separate action during the meeting.
