State Board of Education will review SAU withdrawal planning committee report; date for town vote set by SBOE

At the July 20 meeting, David Stahlin explained that the State Board of Education (SBOE) — not the town — sets the date for a town-level vote on any recommendation coming from a SAU Planning Committee. The committee’s report will be sent to the SBOE for review to determine whether the planning committee met requirements outlined in the RSA.
Stahlin told the group that, if the SBOE identifies missing elements in the plan, the SBOE will flag those items for correction but does not possess veto power over the local committee’s recommendation. The committee discussed that this review and the RSA requirements should be summarized in the presentation materials for the Aug. 8 special district meeting so residents understand the state-level review process.
