The SAU Withdrawal Research Committee, chaired by David Stahlin, spent its July 20 meeting reviewing a draft plan for Francestown’s potential withdrawal from the regional School Administrative Unit and preparing presentation slides for a special district meeting on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 10:00 AM in the multi-purpose room at Francestown Elementary School.
Stahlin explained that, "following an affirmative vote," the draft plan will be passed to the newly formed SAU Planning Committee to carry the next stage of work, and he emphasized that the current weeks are the last to finalize the SAU WRC’s portion of the plan. The committee walked through draft slides, discussed the warrant articles that will appear on the special district meeting ballot, and recommended edits to simplify wording and clarify likely outcomes the planning committee might recommend.
Committee members flagged the core questions residents are expected to ask at the special district meeting — what withdrawal would mean for students and for local taxes — and agreed those issues should be presented clearly in the slides and addressed by the planning committee’s research. The committee set its next meeting for Monday, August 3, 2026 at 7:00 PM in the FES Conference Room and adjourned at 7:43 PM.
