Planner presents Architectural Review Overlay edits and draft design guide

During a project wrap‑up presentation on May 22, AmeriCorps RARE planner Solwyn Dacrozek said she reviewed the existing Architectural Review Overlay (ARO) code, drafted edits that will need formal adoption, and convened a six‑member advisory committee of local stakeholders to advise the process.
"I formed an architect review overlay zone advisory committee...comprised of 6 bandonites who either have businesses, properties, or just a stake in Old Town," Dacrozek said. She described drafting a preliminary design guide to accompany code edits that would provide clearer facade and design standards; the guide is not finalized and the presenter said council approval would be required to adopt it. Dacrozek asked the commission to consider the design guide alongside the code updates and noted the guide should be approved by city council rather than remain an informal supplement.
No formal vote or adoption occurred; the update was presented as part of a hand‑off to incoming planning staff and as background for future code edit hearings.
