Staff told the committee the city has entered a three-year memorandum of understanding with Bandon Dunes under which a 1% assessment on the resort’s bed tax will be remitted to the city to supplement law enforcement funding. "It's an annual payment...we entered into a 3 year MOU with automatic renewals," the city manager said.
The manager said the MOU’s proceeds will be in addition to the city’s existing police appropriation and estimated the first-year deposit at $262,000 because the new assessment starts in July and will not generate a full year of receipts. Committee members sought clarification about whether any of the funds would be passed to the county sheriff; staff said the payment is intended strictly for city policing.
