Council approves tree removal request on 13th Street SE with standard conditions

Planning director Dana Nichols presented a land-use application for a property owner seeking to remove two short pines on 13th Street SE to pave a section of roadway.
Nichols told the council that city code allows tree removal where paving requires it and that standard permit conditions apply: the applicant must complete utility locates, obtain a public works permit, and either replant replacement trees or pay an in-lieu fee. "They pay an in lieu fee of a $150 per tree," Nichols said, recommending approval of the request subject to those conditions.
A councilor moved to approve the tree-removal request with the standard conditions listed on the application; the motion was seconded and the council approved it unanimously.
Staff will process the permit with the stated conditions and collect the $300 payment if the applicant chooses the in-lieu fee option.
