Bethel to close Clear Lake Elementary, convert site to $4M resiliency hub

Superintendent Craig Sproles described last year’s decision to close Clear Lake Elementary as a difficult but necessary fiscal step to reduce operating costs. He estimated the closure will eventually save about $1.8 million; next year’s savings from reduced FTE are forecast at roughly $1.2 million.
Sproles said the district and county will convert the building into a resiliency hub (renaming it Clear Lake Community Center) and that the district has been granted funding to invest about $4.0 million in the site. He framed the conversion as a community-focused reuse that preserves services while reducing school operating costs.
