Miss Fox presented the Family Resource Center’s slate of community events that will support students as schools reopen. She described a back-to-school shopping event for 28 children at Walmart, and highlighted a larger 'Head to Toe' event scheduled for Aug. 1 at First Baptist Church that the center expects will provide free haircuts, supplies and shoes for roughly 1,000 children across Loudon County.
Miss Fox also noted partnerships with civic groups (Kiwanis Club and others) and a corporate partner supplying backpacks with tech sleeves for kindergarten students; the backpacks will arrive at the Family Resource Center on July 30 and be distributed at reveal night. “This is our 3rd year for that program…we will support about 1000 children across Loudon County,” she said. The board confirmed the Aug. 1 event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Family Resource Center emphasized there are 85 community partners supporting the district’s students and that new partners continue to expand available resources. Board members asked timing and logistics questions and received the handout Miss Fox referenced.
