At the meeting a representative from the Military Order of the Purple Heart recited the text of the proclamation and introduced local honorees by name, saying the decoration "evolved from the badge of military merit created by General George Washington for the common soldier in 1782." The delegation and council discussed placement of Purple Heart Trail signage and downtown veteran parking signs; the DOT will pick up state highway signs Monday and the city will post local signs downtown and at the clubhouse.
The council voted to approve the proclamation, effective September 2024. The delegation noted there is no authoritative database of Purple Heart recipients but offered rough statewide counts and welcomed Alcester as one of the communities joining the Purple Heart Trail.
