Council briefs: regional summit, chip-seal work and new police hire noted

Council members were briefed on an Oct. 2 regional summit, street chip-sealing that began Aug. 26–27, and the hiring of Chet Van Sickle for the police department with a start date of Aug. 26, 2024; these items were informational only.
City Manager Katie Hodge provided several informational items at the Aug. 27 meeting. She shared that a Regional Summit for Lyon, Chase, Coffey and Osage counties is scheduled for Oct. 2, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to coordinate regional projects and grant efforts, and that she distributed the Osage County Strategic Plan handout presented to the Industrial Committee by Osage County Economic Development Director Colleen Mendoza on Aug. 21.
Hodge also updated the council that chip-sealing of city streets began the week of Aug. 26 (with work noted as starting Tuesday, Aug. 27) and reported that Chet Van Sickle started as a new hire in the Osage City Police Department on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024. These items were informational and required no council action at the meeting.
