Londonderry Selectboard endorses regional request to stop state placements at Magic View Motel without supports

The Londonderry Selectboard unanimously endorsed a regional letter asking the State to discontinue using the Magic View Motel as placement for the Emergency Motel Program (EMP) unless providers are funded to provide supports. The endorsement came after a formal request from Neighborhood Connections and comments from residents and local emergency responders.
Thomas Simmons, Executive Director of Neighborhood Connections, requested the Selectboard endorse the letter seeking either discontinuation of placements at Magic View or allocation of funding for services. Resident Bobby Gray described drug activity and violence at the property; Pete Cobb, President of the Londonderry Volunteer Rescue Squad, told the board the squad has responded to at least 40 calls to Magic View this year and that his volunteers now wait for police before entering the motel.
All members present agreed to sign the proposed letter; the Selectboard, Rescue Squad, and Fire Department also plan to prepare their own letters in support of closing Magic View as an EMP placement or securing state funding for onsite services. Board members discussed outreach to the motel owner and Aileen Tulloch will contact Rutland officials to learn how that town addressed a similar situation.
