Christine Birong-Smith told the Selectboard the Conservation Commission is seeking to evaluate Urz property for use as a natural burial site. She described that if a parcel is approved it could be converted to nonprofit cemetery status and be managed by a new independent board or by the existing Cemetery Board Association; roles such as sexton and family liaison would be required.
Christine listed minimal equipment needs (excavator and jack-hammer) and said fencing is not required for green burial. Selectboard members asked about access points; Christine and Serena Fox said several access options will be evaluated. The Selectboard voted unanimously to approve commissioning an assessment of the Urz property and agreed that the Selectboard would sign the assessment agreement when prepared.
