On Aug. 18, 2025, the Nickerson City Council approved new Community Center rental rates and a higher deposit. Council Member Berridge moved to change the rates to $75 for a four-hour block and $150 for an all-day rental and to increase the rental deposit to $150; Council Member Willhaus seconded the motion, which passed with five votes in favor and one opposed (Council Member Murphy).
Council Member Murphy questioned whether separate, lower rates should apply to city residents; after discussion members concluded it would be administratively difficult to track two rate schedules. Clerk Beshears said existing bookings will be flagged so customers already quoted a rate will be charged that prior rate, while all new bookings will be charged the new rate. The motion was recorded in the minutes as passing YES — Richard, Berridge, Daily, Willhaus, Gilbert; NO — Murphy.
