The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education attempted two rounds of written voting to fill a vacant vice president post during its Jan. 13, 2026 meeting but no candidate received the four votes necessary to win. President Randy Lopez announced the board would table the election and place it on the Jan. 27 agenda.
Board members used written slips collected and read aloud by the clerk; after the second tally the president said, “With no one earning the sufficient votes to be elected as vice president, we will table this item until the next regularly scheduled board meeting,” and the motion to postpone was approved. The board followed the announced process for written voting and confirmed the tabling by roll call.
The decision means the board will revisit the officer election at its next regular meeting. No formal nominations or motions were adopted that changed committee assignments or officer responsibilities while the seat remains vacant.
