Keller ISD to raise paid meal prices slightly to meet USDA requirements

District staff told the board that USDA rules require school districts to ensure revenue from paid meals covers the cost of those meals so federal reimbursements intended for free and reduced‑price meals are not used to subsidize paid meals. To comply, the administration recommended—and trustees approved—a 5¢ increase to paid student meal prices for the 2026–27 school year.
The approved increases: student breakfast will rise from $1.20 to $1.25; elementary student lunch from $2.95 to $3.00; secondary student lunch from $3.05 to $3.10. The adult breakfast price is being raised from $2.55 to $2.75 and is provided for information; adult meal pricing does not require the same board action as student prices.
The administration said the increases are federally mandated and are designed to ensure compliance with program requirements; the board voted to approve the student meal price changes by a 6–0 vote.
