The Junction City Commission approved a budgeted purchase of two 2026 Chevy Tahoes for the police department at a total cost of $146,211.10 ($73,107.55 each). The police representative said the vehicles are on the dealer—s lot and would be built out and ready to go pending commission approval. The department said older vehicles (a 2017 Tahoe with about 109,000 miles and a 2019 Tahoe with about 155,000 miles) will be sold at auction through Purple Wave to offset replacement costs.
Commissioners asked about the make and model mix in the fleet, striping and decal costs (the department estimated roughly $1,500 per vehicle), and the long‑term procurement approach; staff said police vehicles are exempt from a standard bid process under the city—s fiscal policy because police packages vary between manufacturers and agencies prefer consistency for fleet maintenance. The motion to purchase carried on a voice vote.
