Susan Jagerson, speaking on behalf of LiveWell, described the 12th Street Community Garden's origin (started by a regional leadership class in 2014'15), its current operations and the organization's Pathways grant application seeking $25,000 for a larger shed, water access and sustainability measures. Jagerson said garden plots can be rented ($10 for a bed, $15 for a plot), that the garden must maintain at least 50% produce per Pathways requirements, and that extra produce is used for community meals.
Commissioners asked about maintenance and oversight; Jagerson said LiveWell hires a maintenance worker for the season and the garden board includes community gardeners and representatives from partner organizations. The commission considered Resolution R3139, which supports the garden's funding application and sustainability assurances, and approved the resolution by voice vote. Jagerson said additional improvements (shade structures, pergola, fencing) are planned and that the garden receives support from local partners and small grants already secured for infrastructure.
