The Kansas City, Kansas Board of Education recognized district employees and students during its Jan. 27 meeting.
Doctor Jones presented the District Employees of the Month: Melissa Loibl, a Wyandotte High School counselor and teacher who was credited with supporting 13 seniors to graduate early and helping students complete or recover 67 courses, and Zaire Carlos, an attendance secretary at Lindbergh Elementary noted for strong family engagement work and daily operational support. "Her dedication and impact extend far beyond the expectations of a school counselor," Jones said while announcing Melissa Loibl.
Doctor Lucero presented Students of the Month and scholar-athlete recognitions, including multiple All‑State honorees from Harmon, Meadowlark, Schlegel, Sumner Academy and Washington high schools. Presenters highlighted specific achievements — for example, one student made first‑team All‑State and won conference offensive player of the year honors — and the Sumner Academy debate team was recognized for placing third in the state tournament. The board recessed briefly to take photos with the honorees.
