Commission votes to notify county as legal review finds prior ordinances tied to Chamber master agreement

The city’s legal adviser told the commission that a set of ordinances dating from 2012 — later amended in 2018 — remains on the books and could re-establish a prior Joint Economic Development Commission if the current master agreement were terminated without following the ordinance-notice process. The attorney recommended giving formal notice to the county and then proceeding to repeal the older ordinance package to avoid legal and organizational confusion.
Commissioner motions to authorize notice to the county were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. The commission also addressed ordinance R-3151 (establishing employee positions) and, after discussion about a proposed military-liaison role and pending developments with the MAC and Chamber, moved to table action on that staffing ordinance to a later meeting.
