Mayor Joanie Harris called the Kechi City Council to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 8. After an invocation led by John Speer and the Pledge of Allegiance, Councilmember Matt Brewer moved to approve the agenda with the addition of a 15‑minute executive session to discuss non‑elected personnel under KSA 75‑4319(b)(1); Paul Dwyer seconded and the motion carried 5‑0‑0.
Later in the meeting the council recessed into the executive session at 8:33 p.m. and reconvened in open session at 8:57 p.m.; no binding action was taken during the executive session. The council also voted to recess for a special meeting on Jan. 22, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. for an overview presentation on the Kansas Open Meetings Act and Kansas Open Records Act by Attorney Andrew Kovar; that motion carried 5‑0.
