City approves $12,500 design contract for Lakeside Estates shared-use path

The Ottawa City Commission approved a $12,500 professional-services agreement with BG Consultants on July 15 to survey, design and assist with bidding for a 10-foot shared-use path through the Lakeside Estates development.
Public Works Director Gregor Welsh said the project would create a north–south pedestrian and bicycle connection between 15th Street and 17th Street using special parks funds derived from the original development proceeds for the Lakeside area. “Those design services are gonna include the survey, the engineering, and the bid phase assistance. It would be a one-lump-sum cost of $12,500, which would be funded through the special parks fund,” Welsh said.
The proposed route would run along the west property boundary and is intended to improve pedestrian and bicycle access, expand recreational opportunities for nearby residents and clarify construction costs before construction. The commission approved the agreement by motion.
