RDG pitches an 8–9 month, engagement-focused downtown master plan

It is really the key between a good plan and something that winds up being put on the shelf," Schuchart said, noting the firm uses in-person design studios and interactive mapping to gather ideas.
Schuchart described a proposed 8–9 month schedule and said the team will assess existing infrastructure, accessibility and transportation to determine what the community can support and where targeted condition assessments are needed. He pointed to recent work recognized by the Mid America Regional Council and gave examples of trail and streetscape connections, saying RDG would focus on linking Main Street, Legacy Plaza and Walnut Street with an aim toward implementable projects and funding strategies. Commissioners asked about local Kansas projects the firm has completed and expressed appreciation for the emphasis on connectivity and realistic phasing.
