Council passes first reading to remove two streets from truck routes
Summary
On first reading the council voted to amend city code to remove East Chaney and North Fulton from designated truck routes; the ordinance will return for a second reading on Aug. 3.
Clerk Copp introduced Ordinance No. 291, which would amend Title IV, Chapter 1, Article 9, Section 9.04 of the Newell City Code to remove East Chaney and North Fulton Street from the list of designated truck routes. Councilmember Taylor moved to approve the first reading, Henrich seconded and the motion passed by voice vote. The ordinance was scheduled for a required second reading on Aug. 3.
Public Works staff member Lange updated the council on related public-works items, including confirmation that Cross is now a certified wastewater operator and that a recent DNR inspection passed with no violations. Lange also reported fiber-conduit progress and ongoing challenges with gas lines that could affect public-works projects.
