Committee amends Gluckstadt ABC warehouse bill to direct proceeds to defray DOR debt

Lawmakers amended HB 17 31 to correct a clerical agency name and add language directing sale proceeds to "defray" Department of Revenue costs related to a new warehouse. The bill was amended to specify the Madison County Economic Development Authority as the conveyance recipient and was then reported out.
Chair introduced House Bill 17 31 about the old ABC warehouse in Gluckstadt and noted the senate and house versions differed on the disposition of sale proceeds. He said the house version had proceeds directed to benefit the Department of Revenue; the senate version would have put proceeds into the general fund.
Senator Williams offered a two-part amendment: a clerical correction changing "Department of Finance and Admonition" to the "Department of Finance and Administration," and insertion of the word "defraying" so that proceeds would assist with defraying the Department of Revenue's costs related to a new warehouse for Mississippi Alcohol Beverage Control. "We're going to change that, and add the word defraying, for the sole benefit of defraying the Department of Revenue's cost related to construction of a new warehouse," Senator Williams said. The amendment passed by voice vote. Committee members also offered and adopted language specifying the Madison County Economic Development Authority as the conveyance recipient. The bill, as amended, was then reported out of committee by voice vote.
