Rex Roberts of Kinetic Broadband presented a broadband-improvement proposal to the Newell City Council that would upgrade existing facilities and retire older copper lines. Roberts described project phases and replacement plans; council members raised concerns about impacts to the citys right-of-way and customer-service reputation.
Staff member Lange urged the company to "do as much as possible on aerial to avoid underground conflicts," citing recent utility challenges and gas-line constraints. Councilmembers asked Roberts for references to other communities where Kinetic has completed similar work; the council agreed to a follow-up meeting and will consider a vote at its Aug. 3 meeting.
